COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Stephen Massey was named the new chief executive for United Senior Services after Maureen Fagans retired at the end of January; he brings extensive experience leading trauma programs and building community partnerships with work at the Trauma Recovery Center (Springfield).  Springfield News-Sun
  • On Monday morning, hundreds gathered at St. John Missionary Baptist Church to support the Haitian community while local faith leaders urged extension of Temporary Protected Status. Fire marshal instructions led some to watch the service by livestream due to overcrowding.  Springfield News-Sun

CULTURE NEWS

  • Springfield Youth Arts Ambassadors traveled to Atlanta during the MLK holiday weekend for the Junior Theater Festival, where they earned Excellence in Ensemble Work for scenes from Peter Pan Jr. The group will hold Tarzan auditions on March 27 at the Arts Council office.  Springfield News-Sun
  • The Clark State Performing Arts Center will host two concerts in downtown Springfield with Nashville-based singer-songwriter Kyshona performing at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 13 as part of Club Kuss — and JJ Grey and Mofro playing at 8 p.m. Feb. 20.  Clark State College
  • The Springfield Symphony Orchestra will hold its 16th annual Grapes & Escapes fundraiser with a Mardi Gras theme Saturday, Feb. 7, at Clark State Performing Arts Center. The evening features dinner, dancing, a live auction, and live Dixieland jazz musical performances & Cajun cuisine in a festive setting.  Springfield News-Sun
