EDUCATION NEWS

  • Today, Governor Mike DeWine and Lt. Gov Tressel declared Ohio Court Reporting and Captioning Week to run through Feb. 14, and Clark State College is spotlighting its online program that trains students with internships and digital stenography to produce courtroom transcripts. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City officials urged residents and businesses to immediately clear snow and ice from sidewalks for pedestrian safety after recent snowfall as 2–4 inches are forecast for Friday. The city ordinance requires clearing by 10 a.m. to protect children (and seniors, people with disabilities and first responders) from hazardous conditions.  WYSO
  • Federal officials are appealing a court ruling that stopped the move to cancel TPS for Haitians in Springfield and Clark County; the ruling said cancellation did not follow legal steps and local residents rely on TPS while officials review next actions & potential changes.  Springfield News-Sun

HEALTH NEWS

  • United Senior Services suspended meals and activities at the New Carlisle location (Lake Avenue Apartments) due to low attendance but continues Meals on Wheels, in-home care, and transportation. The agency will work with local administrators to plan a future solution.  Springfield News-Sun

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • County planners approved a lot split at the Melody Parks development to create 90 single-family lots in a $400 million project by Forty Partners LLC. The plan uses tax abatements and an infrastructure agreement to fund public utilities and roads for the new homes.  Springfield News-Sun
