COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Second Harvest Food Bank of Clark, Champaign, and Logan Counties received a 950 out of 1,000 score on a food safety audit that checked for cleanliness, pest control, and safe food handling. Food bank officials said the high mark shows the hard work of staff and volunteers and the next check is scheduled for 2027. Springfield News-Sun

- ➤ Nick, a high school senior, is chasing his dream to be a pilot after a Discovery Flight sparked his love for airplanes since he was young. He has been accepted to flight school and now is waiting for the FAA to review his first class medical certificate application—while his mother watches with cautious hope. Springfield News-Sun
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Springfield nonprofit Sheltered Inc. named Neal Browning as its new executive director after more than 200 people applied—Browning, a Marine Corps veteran who worked with OIC since 2008, has started his role to improve services. The city commission approved funds on Tuesday so the men’s shelter can reopen 24 hours daily as the agency works to resolve past funding and management challenges. Springfield News-Sun
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Clark County Health District is asking local commissioners to adopt stricter tobacco licensing rules to limit youth access and reduce addiction risks by raising fines to $1,000 (up from $500) and adding a zone around youth centers. A survey of high schoolers shows many find tobacco products too easy to buy, and health officials believe the tougher rules will lower early use of these products. Springfield News-Sun
