CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Raheem Cummings was secretly indicted on murder, aggravated robbery and related charges after a January shooting on Larch Street that left homeowner Spencer Sharp dead and Clifton James Cummings fatally shot — he was on the run, so authorities sealed the indictment — and now faces the same charges as three other suspects. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Clark County Parks District is conducting controlled prairie burns at several sites through May 31 to remove invasive plants and help native vegetation grow. Residents near areas such as Rebert Pike Nature Park and along Eagle City Road are asked to follow posted signs and keep a safe distance from the burns. Springfield News-Sun
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Supreme Court ordered the Clark County Board of Elections to put a 0.5% police tax levy on the May 6 ballot after the board turned down the city’s petition due to a technical error (the petition was sent in December and rejected in February); city officials say the ruling will help fund police services until the levy ends in July. REAL ESTATE NEWS
- ➤ AP Development LLC plans to redevelop the historic Hull Plaza building at 4 W. Main St. — at the corner of Main and Fountain — into a mixed-use space with 80-90 new apartments and retail space, city officials said. The nine-story building, once the tallest in Springfield and closed in 2023 for code issues, will be restored with original features preserved. Springfield News-Sun
