COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Troy Area Chamber of Commerce revealed the 2025 Strawberry Festival theme on March 24, 2025. Organizers said the new theme will shape planned activities and events for the festival.  WHIO
  • Local immigration advocates from ABLE distributed Know Your Rights packets and red cards to Springfield Haitians to help them understand their legal rights when interacting with law enforcement - the move comes amid rapid immigration policy changes following temporary status revocations last Friday. Advocates, who have worked with the community for four years, expect rising inquiries as new enforcement measures unfold.  Springfield News-Sun

CULTURE NEWS

  • On March 12 (a spring day) the Clark County Historical Society volunteers recreated a historic Springfield photograph using marshmallow Peeps to represent people from Snyder Park's 150-year dedication (an annual project running for 11 years) that brings the past to view.  Springfield News-Sun

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Springfield is expanding free English classes for immigrants with the Welcome Project, which serves adults, children from kindergarten through eighth grade, and infants to pre-kindergarten (classes are held twice weekly in the evenings at High Street Church of the Nazarene). The 10-week spring session is ongoing and additional sessions will be offered in summer and fall (with summer classes expected to focus on children when school is out).  Springfield News-Sun
  • Several Mad River Schools parents said their children had a scary bus ride on Friday after a driver allegedly screamed at them, though district leaders said they found no evidence of wrongdoing (according to their investigation). A group of parents stayed on school property (and police were called to help keep everyone safe) as the situation unfolded.  WHIO

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A new report ranked Ohio highways 10th in the nation for cost-effectiveness and condition — it noted that drivers spent about 12 hours stuck in traffic each year.  WHIO
  • Clark County commissioners approved a $336M annual budget for 2025 that sets aside $58M for the general fund and projects a year-end balance over $448,000. Officials increased capital improvement funding by $2.4M, granted a 3% raise to most non-collective bargaining employees, and planned $5.9M in road and bridge projects—while maintaining a strong Aa2 bond rating.  Springfield News-Sun
