Good morning, Springfield. Here's your local news at a glance for Friday, the 28th of March.
COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Young’s Jersey Dairy in Dayton is changing its Easter hunt on April 20 by using plastic eggs — each egg has a ticket for a free ride on Cowtherine’s Carousel and the farm will donate $1,500 each to The Foodbank in Dayton and Second Harvest Food Bank in Springfield. The dairy said it will use real, hand-dyed eggs again in 2026. WDTN
- ➤ A federally funded shipment of essential foods—chicken, pork, milk, eggs, cereal and turkey breast—was canceled for Second Harvest Food Bank as the permanent cut in the Local Food Purchase Assistance program will leave over 350,000 families with less support; the delivery was set between May and August. This loss comes at a critical time when many children will miss free or reduced-price school meals during the summer. WHIO
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Ohio Edison plans to raise electric bills by 1.5% for Clark County customers—meaning an average user will pay about $1.92 more per month—to cover costs for better distribution services. The Public Utilities Commission will hold an evidentiary hearing May 5 at 10 a.m. in Columbus to review the proposal. Springfield News-Sun
