GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Federal cuts are lowering the food bank’s ability to feed local families by canceling an upcoming shipment of essential items worth over $200,000 and reducing food by another $250,000 for the rest of the year — these cuts will start at the end of May when demand rises as children leave school. The food bank, which serves Clark, Champagne and Logan Counties, is meeting with local leaders to discuss next steps.  WHIO
  • Residents in Springfield reported low satisfaction with city communication in a recent survey—only 19% were satisfied while 64% expressed dissatisfaction, prompting city leaders to review current methods and explore new platforms such as social media, podcasts, and enhanced public meetings. Communication director Karen Graves said officials are determined to adjust their outreach strategies so that longtime residents feel informed and engaged.  Springfield News-Sun
  • Ohio lawmakers plan to drop the highest income tax rate in favor of a flat 2.75% rate starting in tax year 2026—this change will lower the top rate to 3.125% for tax year 2025 and apply the flat rate to income over $27,350. Supporters say the switch will help the state attract new investment while critics worry it will raise costs for low- and middle-income families.  WDTN
