CRIME NEWS

  • The Second District Court of Appeals affirmed Hermanio Joseph's 2024 conviction for causing the August 2023 school bus crash in Clark County that killed 11-year-old Aiden Clark — sentencing him to nine to 13.5 years in prison.  WHIO

ECONOMY NEWS

  • The USDA cut funding for the Ohio CAN program (formerly known as the LFPA program) that helped local food banks get fresh produce and will end after June 30, leaving over 170 local farmers (farmers, growers and food producers) without a key revenue source and food banks with less access to healthy food.  WYSO

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Most of the region escaped major damage from Wednesday night’s storms when strong winds and heavy rain swept through and several tornado warnings were issued. Heavy rain is expected to continue through the weekend as a flood watch remains in effect until 8 a.m. Sunday — local officials advise residents to monitor updates — and crews are ready to respond to any flooding issues.  Springfield News-Sun

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Ohio Department of Commerce’s Division of Unclaimed Funds unveiled a new system that makes it easier and faster for Ohioans to search for and claim unclaimed funds while business owners can now file reports online — free webinars on April 9, April 10, and April 16 will demonstrate how the upgrade works.  WDTN

  • Downtown Springfield is hosting its first Restaurant Week to attract more visitors as local restaurant owners work to boost traffic after a 30 percent drop since pre-Covid times.
