CULTURE NEWS

  • Springfield artist Nathan Conner was hired by Leep to create a Negro Leagues-themed painting for a commemorative auction celebrating baseball history at Rickwood Field, and his black-and-white piece will be finished before the event. The finished work may later be displayed at the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum in Kansas City.  Springfield News-Sun

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Ohio colleges have faced steep debt and are taking steps to secure quality education. Wittenberg University has cut staff and programs after receiving a financial distress status from the Higher Learning Commission—while Antioch College has restructured operations and Central State University will work with state officials to improve finances—measures aimed at stabilizing these institutions for the future.  WYSO

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • New Carlisle City Council is set to appoint Donald Hall III as city manager at today's meeting—held at 6 p.m. at Heritage Hall in Smith Park. He will begin his role on April 14, replacing interim manager Howard Kitko after the council reviewed 21 applicants and interviewed three candidates.  Springfield News-Sun
