ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Cedarville University student Judah White and his father Matt White were released from Lehigh Valley Hospital’s burn unit after a plane crashed in a retirement community parking lot shortly after takeoff to Springfield Beckley Municipal Airport in early March—FAA and NTSB are investigating the accident. ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Gas prices increased nearly 20 cents per gallon on average (with Dayton prices rising nearly 53 cents compared to last month) according to recent data (from WHIO Staff). WHIO
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Consumers in Springfield must check their refrigerators if they have Johnsonville cheddar bratwurst made Feb. 5 in a 19-oz sealed tray package because the product may contain hard plastic — the recall affects several states including Ohio and was announced by the USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service. - ➤ The federal government cut off $2.7 million in grant funds for the Clark County Combined Health District on March 24th — funds used for public health staff salaries, a new clinic site, and a mobile health unit for infectious disease response. The Butler County General Health District expects about a $3,000 monthly reduction — a change that will delay its planned upgrade to an electronic record system and add to concerns for future funding shortfalls. - ➤ The Collaboratory is launching a campaign with national nonprofit Undue Medical Debt to forgive $22.74 million in medical debt for 13,000 Miami Valley residents earning up to four times the federal poverty level—using a debt purchasing system to settle unpaid bills and partnering with Mercy Health to ease the financial burden. - ➤ Residents in Springfield can drop off old prescription drugs at local law enforcement sites on April 26 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. as the event will accept non-narcotics, narcotics, over the counter, herbal and veterinary medications while excluding biohazard materials, illegal drugs, liquids and needles.
