BUSINESS NEWS

  • Victor’s Taco Shop will open a second location at 10:00 a.m. Friday, April 11 at 1200 N. Bechtle Ave. in Springfield — customers visiting during the first month will enter a raffle for a $500 check with the winner announced on May 11. The new 2,000-square-foot venue will seat about 60 people and plans include a food truck and an application for a liquor license for future expansion.  Springfield News-Sun

CRIME NEWS

  • AES Ohio warned of scammers posing as company representatives who demanded immediate payment through third-party sites and threatened to disconnect service—customers with billing concerns were advised to check their accounts online or call customer service.  WHIO
  • Seventeen people were indicted in Clark County Common Pleas Court this week on charges ranging from receiving stolen property to attempted murder—many of the cases involve individuals from Springfield.  Springfield News-Sun

CULTURE NEWS

  • Springfield will host a Haitian culture celebration and fundraiser on May 3 at 6 p.m. at the John Legend Theater — the event will offer authentic Haitian food, live music, dance performances and art displays while aiming to educate attendees about Haitian history.  Springfield News-Sun

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Agriculture experts in Ohio warned that spotted lanternflies will soon emerge and urged residents to remove egg masses to protect local plants. Ohio State University Extension advised scraping egg masses into soapy water—an effort aimed at reducing nymph numbers next season.  WDTN

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Clark-Shawnee voters will decide on a school district earned income tax at the May 6 election that could raise about $3.1 million a year and cost a resident earning $50,000 roughly $500 annually if approved. Residents can learn more about the proposal at an info session on April 10 at 6:30 p.m. at the Springfield Twp. government building (2777 Springfield-Xenia Road).  Springfield News-Sun
