COMMUNITY NEWS

  • His Hands, Our Feet held an auction Saturday to raise funds for rebuilding in Chimney Rock after Hurricane Helene left homes completely gone — heavy rains of 25 to 30 inches in 48 hours caused severe damage. The group said they will plan another trip as many local residents have reached out to offer help.  WHIO

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Ohio State Highway Patrol is responding to a crash today near the intersection of East County Line Road — Urbana Road in Springfield.  WHIO
  • Two people were hospitalized after a motorcycle crashed into a van on Saturday at about 1:23 p.m. at the intersection of US Route 40 and Milton-Carlisle Road — one man with a head injury and a helmeted woman with a leg injury — while the van driver was unharmed and the crash remains under investigation.  WDTN

CRIME NEWS

  • In March, a jury in Springfield found 27-year-old Joseph Windsor guilty of attempted murder, felonious assault, and gun charges from a Sept. 24 shooting near South Wittenberg and West Grand that injured a victim — on Friday he was sentenced to between 21 and 26½ years in prison with 167 days served, with a 10-year requirement to register as a violent offender and up to 5 years of parole after release, and his sentence will be served at the Ohio State Penitentiary.  WHIO

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Ohio agriculture experts advise residents to check outdoor items for mud-like egg masses that could hatch into invasive spotted lanternflies—each mass may contain 30 to 50 eggs that can harm local plants.  WDTN

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Clark County will host its 15th annual job fair Tuesday from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the Hollenbeck-Bayley Conference Center downtown — 60 employers in sectors such as manufacturing, health care, skilled labor and hospitality will meet high school seniors, disabled job seekers and other adults — while a mobile unit offers mock interviews and interpreters provide Haitian Creole and American Sign Language support.  Springfield News-Sun

HEALTH NEWS

  • The USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service warned consumers yesterday that popular soup and bowl products might be contaminated with wood from a recalled cilantro ingredient—products were shipped to retailers in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, and Ohio. FSIS expects more items to be added soon and advised consumers to throw away or return the affected products rather than use them.  WDTN
