Over the weekend in Bethel Twp, a 2025 Ram Promaster 1500 did not stop at a sign on Milton-Carlisle Road and collided with a 2022 Harley Davidson motorcycle on U.S. 40, seriously injuring its rider and passenger who were taken to Miami Valley Hospital— the van driver was cited for failing to yield.

Springfield City Schools District closed all schools Monday due to a bus driver shortage from illness—extracurricular activities and sports events continued as scheduled.

The district detailed the decision in a social media post.

Rural communities in the Miami Valley face a severe lawyer shortage, with some counties having as few as 21 attorneys for over 44,000 residents.

The shortage is driven by retiring lawyers and few young professionals choosing rural practice (local law schools and legal aid groups are working to increase legal support).
