- ➤ Joann Fabrics will close 255 stores by the end of this week and more than 500 stores by the end of May following its January bankruptcy filing — including the Springfield location at 1608J Upper Valley Pike along with other Ohio stores. WHIO
- ➤ A local small business in Springfield worked with project partners to design a keepsake gift bag for NATO visitors—company officials said it was an honor to work together—and finished the project on April 28. WHIO
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Graduation ceremonies at Cedarville University will start with a senior celebration on May 2nd and continue on May 3rd with two events awarding 905 degrees—while Clark State College holds its two-session commencement at the Performing Arts Center. Wittenberg University’s ceremony is set for May 17th at Commencement Hollow with backup plans to move indoors if needed. Springfield News-Sun
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Springfield city leaders plan to replace the SCAT bus service with a private ride-sharing company using Toyota Siennas that let riders book trips online or by phone—changes are set to begin in a few months. Some residents who depend on buses worry the new system may limit their transportation choices. WHIO
- ➤ Springfield city officials visited tents in Snyder Park on April 4 to notify residents that the encampment will be cleared for health and safety reasons+ they will work with local nonprofits to connect everyone with shelter and support services. Springfield News-Sun
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ The Food and Drug Administration has announced a recall of 7,234 cases—173,616 bottles—of Martinelli’s apple juice that may contain patulin from rotting apples. Martinelli’s said retailers in several states, including Ohio, have removed the product after it was produced in December 2023. WHIO
