- ➤ Derby Day at Mother's Brewing Company occurs on Saturday, May 2, featuring a Crawl for the Roses baby race, live Kentucky Derby coverage on a 30ft screen, & mint juleps at the bourbon bar. Presented by Friends of Buck Creek, the fundraiser will also offer live music. Springfield News-Sun
- ➤ The News-Sun is asking Springfield moms to share their experiences ahead of Mother’s Day for an upcoming feature on everyday motherhood—interested women should fill out the provided form to participate. Springfield News-Sun
- ➤ Springfield's mow-to-own program lets local residents mow vacant lots during the season and then receive the lot — a measure that has returned 228 properties to productive use since 2015. The program now has six parcels in process and may allow future building opportunities. WYSO
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Clark State College recently inducted 68 eighth-grade students into its Scholars Program at the Performing Arts Center, launching a mentorship and scholarship pathway for first-generation, college-bound students from eight partner middle schools. The program will pair each student with a mentor starting in ninth-grade to guide their academic and career preparations. Clark State College
- ➤ A team of 12 educators from Global Impact STEM Academy competed in a 150-mile overnight relay race over the weekend in southern Ohio to strengthen teamwork and support teen drug prevention. Led by 10th grade FFA advisor Olivia Pflaumer, the group returned to classes with renewed professional focus (earning Buck Fifty finisher medals and a box of Crispie Creme donuts).
