- ➤ Miffin Township Fire Capt. Anthony Torres saved a girl from falling off Alum Creek Bridge by stopping his drive and pulling her off the fence as she appeared ready to jump — his prompt action averted a potential tragedy. WHIO
- ➤ A Clark-Shawnee school bus collided with a Chevrolet Malibu on Thursday morning on Kinnane Avenue near Clifton Avenue, injuring Catherine Stevens, 61, a Springfield resident—she was taken to hospital while no students were hurt. Springfield News-Sun
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Electric bills in Springfield will rise on June 1, adding about $18 to the average monthly cost. Costanzo from NOPEC explained the increase comes from the electric grid supplier and advised customers to turn off unused electronics + compare offers on the state’s energy choice website. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Greenon Local Schools is asking voters to approve a levy that will complete a new transportation hub, expand the athletic facility for wrestling, and convert a storage area into classrooms. Homeowners will pay $97 per $100,000 of appraised value if the levy passes — superintendent Darrin Knapke said the projects will upgrade the district’s facilities — as the district transforms its space. - ➤ Nine Springfield City middle school students were named finalists in the Do the Write Thing challenge that asked them to write about violence — Jasyla Lambey from Schaefer Middle School will represent the district at the national event in Washington, D.C. in July. Springfield News-Sun

- ➤ Officials are holding a training exercise for emergency scenarios at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base and Springfield-Beckley Air National Guard Base from today to May 4. Residents should know that if they hear explosions or gunshots—sounds tied to the exercise—they should not call 911. WDTN

- ➤ The Alzheimer’s Association’s 2025 report finds that 236,200 Ohioans aged 65 and older have Alzheimer’s and that 452,000 unpaid caregivers provided 679 million hours of care plus Medicaid costs reached $3.2 billion; the group will lobby for insurers to cover blood-based biomarker tests so more people can be diagnosed early.
