EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Photos taken on April 22 showed that a new Upper Academy facility was under construction at Global Impact STEM Academy (GISA). Springfield News-Sun
- ➤ High schools in Clark and Champaign counties are preparing graduation ceremonies for the Class of 2025, with events set from May 15 at Shawnee High School to June 8 at Urbana and various venues in between. Several schools have arranged rain dates and indoor options—such as Tecumseh’s ceremony on May 30 moving indoors if needed—to ensure the celebrations go on as planned. Springfield News-Sun
- ➤ Clark State College announced it will offer a new bachelor’s degree in nursing starting this fall at its main campus in Springfield—students entering with 65 credit hours from their associate degree can complete the program in as few as three semesters. The program was approved by the Ohio Department of Higher Education and will begin with 15 students before expanding to 90 by its fourth year, meeting local demand for skilled nurses. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ A sustainable energy solutions company plans to build a 180-megawatt solar facility on 1,600 acres of farmland in eastern Clark County that could power about 33,000 homes and boost local jobs, tax revenue, and lease payments. Project representatives have met with residents—public meetings and detailed studies will continue to refine the project boundaries and connection to the local grid. Springfield News-Sun

- ➤ The city cleared the homeless encampment at Snyder Park on Monday for health and safety reasons after many residents declined offered shelter services—cleanup targeting vegetation and debris may take a month. The outreach team—which included police, fire/EMS, park rangers and community groups—and over $300,000 in funding to expand shelter hours remains committed to helping displaced individuals.
