On June 6, a free event will celebrate Springfield’s immigrants through art and storytelling from 5 to 7 p.m. on the third floor of the Metropolis at 102 W.
High St.—organizers plan to offer interactive art displays, storytelling tables, and snacks that invite residents to share their own immigrant stories.
The historic Gammon House will host 2025 Juneteenth events that honor its role as one of Springfield’s few original Underground Railroad safe houses—planned activities include the debut of a new interactive walking trail at 11 a.m. on June 7, a prayer breakfast at 9 a.m. on June 13 at St. John Missionary Baptist Church, and a full-day festival with live music, vendors, and tours on June 14. The celebrations mark 20 years of community work and are set to highlight local contributions to freedom.
Three local school districts faced levy rejections in May—Clark-Shawnee with votes of 68.3%-31.7%, Greenon with 79.6%-20.4%, and Graham with 58.1%-41.8%—and are now examining funding options.
Clark-Shawnee will review potential staffing cuts while Greenon and Graham plan limited changes to maintain current services.
Yesterday, Gov. Mike DeWine unveiled more than a dozen recommendations from the Ohio Missing Persons Working Group—meant to speed up investigations and improve communication with families—and ordered state agencies to begin implementing the changes.
