- ➤ Clark County Dog Shelter features Pink, a 3-year-old French Bulldog mix weighing about 40 pounds who is known for her sweet personality and cuddling skills—she is potty trained as long as she has regular outdoor access at 5201 Urbana Road in Springfield. Springfield News-Sun
- ➤ Local groups Clark County Partners in Prevention and Springfield Promise Neighborhood launched the Sticker Shock program to remind customers that supplying alcohol to minors is a crime. On May 15, students put up 250 stickers at south side businesses to raise awareness — the project aims to involve youth and alert parents. Springfield News-Sun
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A vacant house on the 4900 block of Alpha Road in Bethel Twp burned around 3:15 a.m. Wednesday and became a total loss because firefighters struggled with a lack of nearby hydrants—forcing them to refill water from National Road while the house, recently sold to a Texas company, incurred heavy damage and the cause remains under investigation. CRIME NEWS
- ➤ William Calhoun was convicted for fatally shooting Racquel Fowler and nonfatally shooting another man on Feb. 5 at about 2:20 a.m. on the 300 block of West Liberty in south Springfield (verdict reached after a jury trial). Springfield News-Sun
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Local school districts have announced start dates for the school year 2025 to 2026 — Springfield City Schools will open on August 18 for grades 1-9, August 19 for grades 10-12, and August 20 for kindergarten, while other districts have set their openings from early August to early September. - ➤ Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine announced a new state campaign to help families practice safe driving with teen drivers.
