- ➤ A man who ran from law enforcement over mental health or substance issues fell from a cliff at Mad River Gorge near Springfield—he is now recovering in the hospital and is not under arrest. WDTN
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Starting in October, Springfield will see a 40% increase in electric spending for city facilities and street lights as Finance Director Katie Eviston said the rate will raise the annual cost from $1.1 million to about $1.5 million—city officials received 11 quotes with Dynegy offering the best deal. Residential customers may face an $18 monthly rise on their Ohio Edison bills while city leaders explore renewable energy options like solar power to help curb costs. Springfield News-Sun

- ➤ The Southeastern softball Trojans lost to Covington 10—8 in the Division VII regional final at Northmont High School and did not qualify for the state semifinals in Akron next week. Coach Kaitlyn Blair said the loss motivates the team to build on their efforts next season. Springfield News-Sun
- ➤ Shawnee High School’s softball team ended its season one game short of the Division V state tournament after outhitting Liberty Union 6 to 4 but making three key errors—senior pitcher Aleeseah Trimmer threw seven innings with nine strikeouts as the Braves finished 25 to 4.
