- ➤ Jan Kushmaul, a lifelong advocate for families and children, will be honored at the Empowering Women One by One awards luncheon on Saturday, June 14—from noon to 3 p.m. at the Woman’s Town Club in Springfield; the event, organized by the Springfield City Federation of Women’s Clubs and chaired by Nadine Steele, highlights her decades of volunteer work in our community. CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Three shootings on one street have sent three individuals to the hospital in the last three days and fueled neighbor safety concerns—authorities are investigating the incidents. WHIO
- ➤ Authorities arrested Errol Baker, 47, after a drug bust in Springfield that seized enough fentanyl—enough to kill 60,000 people—and charged him with two counts of drug possession. WHIO
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Residents near Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Wright State University and Springfield-Beckley Municipal Airport should expect gunshots, explosions, smoke and flashes during a military training exercise Saturday — the 178th Wing is holding drills for the 445th Aeromedical Staging Squadron and asked residents not to call 911. Air Force, Army and Marine Corps units will also conduct Close Air Support training later in southern Ohio where increased aircraft noise may be heard. Springfield News-Sun

- ➤ Kenton Ridge Cougars Softball won the OSHAA Division IV state championship on Thursday by beating Hillsboro 9-0 in Akron—completing a perfect 32-0 season. The team scored seven runs in the third inning while Jayden Davis and Kendall Massie each drove in two runs to help secure their first state title. WHIO
