  • Bacon and Dexter are two 1-1/2-year-old flat coated retriever mixes featured as the pet of the week at Clark County Dog Shelter on Urbana Road—each adoption fee covers their neuter, vaccines, microchip, dog license and a free vet check.   • Second Harvest Food Bank was awarded $75,000 by Honda to support its staffing, logistics and infrastructure as food insecurity rises in our region — the grant will help the food bank serve over 56,000 people while distributing nearly five million pounds of food each year.  Springfield News-Sun

  • COhatch in Springfield is unveiling new dining concepts and updated hours at Myers Market after Ironworks Waffle Cafe—once a breakfast favorite—closed from the venue; the new features will roll out later this summer.  Springfield News-Sun
  • Three downtown businesses are rebranding as Torte & Iron Café at 36B N. Fountain Ave and will open on July 8. The new café will blend scratch baking from Le Torte Dolci with creative brunch from Ironworks Waffle Café while Crust & Company pauses for special events.  Springfield News-Sun

  • Local investigators used a brain scan to determine a man was shot in the head—authorities are continuing their investigation.  WHIO

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Three Clark State College students (Clare Grooms, Annalise Smith and Michael Sousa) have been named to the 2025 All-Ohio Academic Team for outstanding academic work, leadership and community service. The honor, announced by the Ohio Association of Community Colleges (in collaboration with Phi Theta Kappa and Honda), may lead to scholarships and further academic opportunities.  Clark State College

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Ohio lawmakers have given county budget commissions the power to lower property tax rates if a levy collects more revenue than needed—commissions will check reserve funds before making any cuts.  Springfield News-Sun
  • The Clark County Sheriff’s Office has announced funeral arrangements for Deputy Ami Oliver, who passed after a courageous battle with illness. Visitation is scheduled between 11 a.m. and noon today at Second Missionary Baptist Church in Springfield and funeral services will begin at noon with burial following at Rose Hill Burial Park.  WDTN
  • High temperatures in the Miami Valley are straining air conditioners — pushing up electric bills and raising concerns for local families. Residents in Montgomery, Greene, Preble and Darke counties may apply for the Ohio Summer Crisis Program from July 1 to Sept. 30, which offers a one-time payment to help with electric bills while a local heating and cooling company advises keeping thermostats between 72 and 75 to ease the strain on units—helping prevent costly repairs.  WDTN
