COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Residents in an apartment complex remain without air conditioning amid dangerous heat, leaving them at risk during high temperatures. Building management said a repair team—scheduled to arrive soon—will inspect the system to restore cooling for the tenants.  WHIO
  • United Senior Services in Clark County saw increased demand in 2024 with 135,080 meals served, 144 homes modified, and over 4,900 members supported—details shared at their Older Americans Day luncheon. Executive Director Maureen Fagans said the agency will expand services to meet growing needs for people aged 55 and older.  Springfield News-Sun
  • Adults have been able to rent a bicycle at the Clark County Public Library Main Branch through a bike share program that launched on June 23 to promote active living in Springfield. The program offers six bicycles and provides helmets, maps, baskets, bike locks, and instructions (all essential for safe riding) while patrons must sign a release and show a valid library card and photo ID.  WYSO

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Department of Homeland Security announced it will end Temporary Protected Status for Haitians, with the designation ending on August 3 and termination effective on September 2—officials said improved conditions in Haiti now make a safe return possible. Springfield authorities noted the change may affect local Haitian workers and will work with state and local partners to maintain public safety.  WHIO
