On Wednesday, July 1, a man sustained serious injuries in a fireworks accident near North Florence Street and was taken to Mercy Health — Springfield before being flown to Miami Valley Hospital, while the fire department reminded residents that fireworks are prohibited in the city.
🎓 Education
Three employees from Clark State College and three from Wittenberg University were honored by SOCHE for excellence awards recognizing leadership, teaching and community service.
The awards highlight efforts that support student success across their campuses.
Clark State College has added new manufacturing courses with a $3.5 million federal grant to address regional workforce demand.
The college introduced certificate and associate degree programs in photonics and laser material processing and invested in advanced equipment and student support services.

State funds of over $700K will be used to clean up contaminated properties in two Springfield-area communities, including the Sycamore Street project in Champaign and the Walter Street Remediation project in Clark which will support redevelopment and new community trails (Buck Creek Trail connecting Snyder Park to Mad River Gorge and Nature Preserve).
