- ➤ An 18-year-old suspect tied to the May 14 homicide in Springfield was arrested on July 3 in Hamden, Connecticut—authorities said he faces charges of two counts of murder, felonious assault and discharging a firearm near prohibited premises while having waived extradition to return soon to Springfield. - ➤ Triad Local Schools hired Maggie Parcels as the new high school principal for the upcoming school year; she will replace outgoing Principal Todd Schneider who will work at Marion Harding High School. Springfield News-Sun
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ At Tuesday’s city commission meeting, Assistant Mayor Dave Estrop said Springfield’s federal funding loss for housing and community development is smaller than expected — although HOME funds remain excluded. City officials will submit a five-year HUD plan by Aug. 16 to outline the use of CDBG, HOME, and ESG funds to support affordable housing and community improvements. Springfield News-Sun

- ➤ Planned Parenthood Southwest Ohio said it will close two family planning clinics in Hamilton and Springfield on August 1 due to federal and state Medicaid cuts that have reduced funding — the clinics offer care like STI tests and cancer screenings and patients have been told of the change — the organization will work with staff to lessen layoffs. - ➤ Sidney Police officer Sean Martin won a gold medal in the street cycling time trials at the World Police and Fire Games held in Birmingham, AL — he finished the course in 31:36 and beat the next competitor by over three minutes. WHIO
- ➤ Kenton Ridge High School’s Ivee Rastatter and Minster High School’s Addi Inskeep were named First Team All-Americans by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association yesterday—Rastatter thanked the association on social media. Minster’s team also praised Inskeep’s talent and work ethic for her honor. WHIO
