COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The family of 7-year-old Hershall Creachbaum Jr. is planning his public funeral in Springfield and asks neighbors to donate $4470 directly to Rose Hill Burial Park at 937-322-5172 — the funeral location will be announced soon.  WDTN

CRIME NEWS

  • Advocates in Springfield asked residents and officials to act against gun violence after a commission meeting where a victim's sister read 120 names and local groups called for more youth outreach and monthly marches. The call comes as the community faces rising violence and a loss of $1.24 million in a federal grant—officials say current strategies are not working.  Springfield News-Sun

CULTURE NEWS

  • A Springfield woman's book 'A Gate in the Wall: A Pacific War POW’s Secret Diary and a Family’s Path Toward Reconciliation' tells the story of civil engineer Wim Lindeijer and his family as they faced loss and hardship during the war. The book uses diary entries and interviews to show how small acts of kindness helped them retain their humanity in difficult times — offering a personal look at reconciliation amid conflict.  Springfield News-Sun
  • Southeastern High School graduate Kylie Corbitt was crowned 2025 Clark County Fair queen by a three-judge panel that rated her poise, communication skills, and community involvement—she will attend Ohio State in the fall to study agriculture communications and receive a $500 scholarship.  Springfield News-Sun

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Federal and state funding cuts have hurt key services in Clark County and Springfield — the Combined Health District lost a $2.7M grant which led to 11 layoffs, a $200K food shipment was canceled, and a $1.6M gun violence prevention grant for Springfield was scrapped. Local officials and agencies are planning adjustments to mental health, community assistance and food programs as rising needs add pressure to the region.  Springfield News-Sun

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Ohio High School Athletic Association announced that girls flag football will be a sanctioned sport in spring 2026—making Ohio the 17th state to offer the game. The move comes as the number of girls teams has grown from 20 to 80, with local schools and NFL teams showing support.  WHIO
