ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A 30-year-old man was hit by a vehicle while running across a street in Springfield and was taken to Grant Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 10:19 p.m.  WHIO
  • On Wednesday evening, Springfield Fire crews and other officials responded to a chemical spill at Parker Trutec on the 4700 block of Gateway Blvd in PrimeOhio Corporate Park after an equipment malfunction sparked the incident.  Springfield News-Sun

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Ohio Governor Mike DeWine is calling on the Ohio Casino Control Commission to remove prop bets from legal betting options after an MLB investigation looked into unusual betting on Cleveland Guardians pitchers. He will ask sports unions to ban bets on individual players in an effort to protect athletes and keep sports fair.  WHIO
  • Ohio’s Tax-Free Holiday starts today to help back-to-school families save on items costing $500 or under until Aug. 14. Online orders are included — alcohol, tobacco and marijuana remain taxed — ensuring clear limits on what shoppers can buy.  WHIO
  • Longtime DJFS director Ginny Martycz is retiring at the end of the month, and Deputy Director Tom McGrath will take the helm effective today. McGrath has over 22 years of county experience—he plans to lead the department through upcoming Medicaid and immigration policy changes.  Springfield News-Sun
