- ➤ On Aug 5, National Night Out brought neighbors together in Springfield and throughout the Dayton and Miami Valley with block parties, cookouts and parades—highlighting a tradition that began in 1981 and has grown to include nearly 17,000 communities. ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Eight people evacuated a local apartment at 5:26 a.m. on August 5th after a fire broke out early yesterday morning – firefighters responded to control the blaze. WHIO
- ➤ A firefighter suffered a back injury battling a house fire on Lexington Avenue in Springfield and was treated and released from the hospital + firefighters arrived at 11 p.m. to quickly put out the blaze + reports confirmed residents escaped with minor smoke inhalation injuries while the cause remains under investigation. - ➤ Human remains were found by a kayaker near the Ohio River on August 5th at 7:44 a.m.—police are investigating the discovery. WHIO
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Clark State Performing Arts Center in downtown Springfield announced its 2025—26 season featuring shows such as The SteelDrivers on Sept. 18, Vienna Teng on Oct. 9, a stage adaptation of To Kill a Mockingbird in late October and early November, and musicals like Elf on Nov. 1 and A Charlie Brown Christmas on Dec. 7, with concerts by Kyshona and Bassel and the Supernaturals through May 1. Community members can also audition and enjoy ticket discounts for students and seniors—ensuring a rich year of local performing arts. Clark State College
- ➤ A plaque was installed above a urinal at the Heritage Center to honor John Fritz’s quirky dream—he organized yearly birthday fundraisers to support the Clark County Historical Society. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Clark County Solid Waste District released its 2024 report showing it helped 3,200 residents recycle over 120 tons of specialty items and processed 57,861 tons at local drop-off sites. The report also noted that 120 classroom programs reached 2,816 students and introduced a new business volunteer cleanup program—while a new 15-year management plan won 94% community support—ensuring safe waste disposal and more recycling options.
