  • A volunteer group reported that someone stole more than half of a ton of donated mulch from a children’s memorial pond and garden in Springfield—leaving volunteers like Khaliid Smoot frustrated and many questions unanswered.  WHIO

  • Larry Humphrey will release nine new songs from his album Funkin’ Just for Fun at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 29 at Mother Stewart’s—he rebuilt his studio after a fire and spent five years recording tracks that mix funk, jazz, and samba.  Springfield News-Sun

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Wittenberg University announced it will launch a women’s flag football team for college athletics in spring 2026—Chris Johnson will serve as head coach and alumni funding has been secured. The program comes as participation in flag football grows by 50% nationwide and the NCAA recognizes the sport as emerging.  WYSO

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The renovated JFS Children’s Home building reopens today to host Clark County Job and Family Service programs such as foster parent training, supervised visitation, and county meetings. The extensive project took several years with delays—one caused by a propane tank explosion in March 2023 that required nearly $1 million in repairs—and now restores a historic group home for local children and families.  Springfield News-Sun
