CRIME NEWS

  • A Lebanon man — Jason A. Milliner, 50 — is indicted for aggravated vehicular homicide after his red Chevrolet Silverado struck Michael Rae Kenneth Wise, 36, who was outside his silver Chevy Ateo on the shoulder of Ohio 72 just after 1:50 p.m., and was pronounced dead at the scene; Milliner was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries and is set for arraignment on Sept. 12 at Clark County Common Pleas Court.  Springfield News-Sun

FINANCE NEWS

  • Lottery officials report that the next Powerball drawing is Wednesday night with an $815 million jackpot and a cash option of $367.9 million—winners must choose between a lump sum or a 30-year annuity, and Ohio residents who opt for the lump sum will net about $217,061,000 after taxes.  WHIO

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Clark County Beggar’s Night will be held on Saturday, Oct. 25 from 6–8 p.m. as set by the sheriff to ensure a safe trick-or-treat experience—his office will increase patrols and advise families to use familiar routes and proper costumes.  Springfield News-Sun
  • Clark County Commissioners have identified a site for a new jail along State Route 72 near I-70 where residents like Cynthia and James Parsley worry about falling property values. The current jail is over capacity and a public vote on a half-percent sales tax levy—intended to cover most of the $100 million project—is set for November.  WHIO

HEALTH NEWS

  • Mercy Health will host an official dedication and ribbon cutting for the Urbana Cancer Center on Thursday, Sept. 4 from 3 to 4:30 p.m. at 905 Scioto St.—the center, which opened in January, now offers expanded care and services for patients in Champaign County.  Springfield News-Sun

  • Mel-O-Dee Restaurant in New Carlisle celebrates 60 years of service since it opened in 1965 by the Childers family. Richard Leon Childers now runs the restaurant with his family and serves Broaster chicken — a special recipe that draws loyal customers.  Springfield News-Sun
