ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A Volvo semi hauling motor oil hit a parked Freightliner on I-70 near State Route 4 on Thursday, injuring drivers Harminder Singh and Saida Usmonova—both were taken to a hospital as crews cleaned up spilled oil and debris while the highway stayed closed for hours. WHIO
- ➤ The fire department is investigating multiple fires that damaged playground equipment across the city+ officials are working to determine the cause and prevent further incidents. WHIO
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Gov. DeWine visited Clark-Shawnee Schools today to open the school year and honor four staff members with plaques and proclamations signed by the governor and lieutenant governor + the event highlighted the school district’s commitment to its students and community. The awards include Teacher of the Year for Stephanie Caraway and support recognitions for staff in daily operations and extra efforts. Springfield News-Sun
- ➤ Clark State College will host a Student Engagement Conference on Sept. 12 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at its main Leffel Lane campus—keynote speaker Freddy Shegog will share his personal journey to inspire students to build their legacy while the free event offers breakfast, lunch, ice-breaker activities, and breakout sessions with faculty. - ➤ Elecia Spain, Clark State College associate dean of access and retention, was named to a national task force to update disability documentation and accommodation standards in higher education. She will meet twice a month during the 2025—26 school year to review research and current practices and help set new guidelines for students. Clark State College
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ After a three-hour hearing on September 5, Clark County commissioners voted 2—1 to impose a two-year moratorium on utility-scale wind and solar projects that generate more than 50MW in unincorporated areas. The ban—set to expire at the end of 2027—covers large projects while excluding certain developments and may be challenged with a petition within 30 days. WYSO
- ➤ Ohio Senator Jon Husted visited Stebbins High School on Friday and toured career tech classes where he saw students working with construction & machine tools and HVAC. He said the visit showed his plan to help students build skills so they can get good jobs without college. WHIO
