COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Over the weekend, the 20th annual Stevie’s World Wiffleball fundraiser brought families together in Springfield to raise money for children with serious medical needs. The event featured games on fields named Sandlot, Fenway, Rickwood and Field of Dreams—led by organizer John Leep and actor Brown—and offered an auction, live music and food trucks.  Springfield News-Sun

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Springfield Museum of Art opened a new watercolor exhibition in the North Gallery over the weekend—showing 64 selected works from artists across the state. Several local artists were at the opening, including Sharon Stolzenberger and Jim Gerkin, and the exhibition runs until November 16.  Springfield News-Sun
  • The seventh annual MustardFEST took place this past weekend at Mother Stewart’s Brewing Company and National Road Commons Park with competitive eater Joey Chestnut hosting contests—hot dog eating and wiener dog races—that thrilled local visitors. Winners like Jack Legath and Dixie earned prizes and advanced toward state finals, adding a fun close to summer.  Springfield News-Sun

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Altrusa International of Springfield is hosting its 26th annual Literacy Sting today at 11 a.m. at Courtyard Springfield Downtown where about 12 teams—including one from Ridgewood School—will spell words to raise roughly $10,000 for local literacy programs, and the event is themed ‘Readers Are Leaders – Bee One.’  Springfield News-Sun

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Clark County residents will vote this November on a 0.5% sales tax increase to raise the rate from 7.25% to 7.75% to help pay for a new jail and public safety building. County officials plan to build a 130—to 140,000 square foot facility near Interstate 70 in south Springfield with 454 beds and room for future expansion.  Springfield News-Sun

HEALTH NEWS

  • Clark County Cares, a local suicide prevention task force, held public events in downtown Springfield during Suicide Awareness Month to display hope and honor veterans. CEO Kelly Rigger said the group aims to reduce suicide deaths further — a decline seen in recent years — by urging those in crisis to seek help.  Springfield News-Sun

SPORTS NEWS

  • Baseball’s final week in Ohio will be dramatic as the Cleveland Guardians try to overcome a historic deficit against Detroit and the Cincinnati Reds tie with the Mets for a playoff spot. Key games across the state—from Lake Erie to the Kentucky border—will decide division titles and wild card berths as teams battle in crucial matchups.  Springfield News-Sun
