COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Springfield’s Community Beautification Committee announced winners of this year’s awards, naming East College Professionals as Business of the Year and honoring Wendy’s, local citizens, and groups for their work on city properties — the public is invited to join the 60th annual awards presentation at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 12, at the Courtyard by Marriott in downtown Springfield.  Springfield News-Sun

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Champion GSE, a Springfield manufacturer, announced plans to build a new 150,000 square foot plant to replace its older 60,000 square foot facility while hiring 30% more workers so it can double its workforce and triple revenue over the next five years. The company, acquired by Dedienne Aerospace last year (showing its push to grow), expects to add 60-80 new jobs and boost local supply support in the coming years.  Springfield News-Sun

CULTURE NEWS

  • Singer-songwriter Vienna Teng will open the Club Kuss concert series at Clark State Performing Arts Center after her performance was postponed in Springfield, and Latin Grammy-nominated Alex Wong will set the tone before Teng presents a mix of familiar and new chamber folk tunes in an intimate show — tickets range from $13 to $23.  Springfield News-Sun

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Graham Local Schools earned the highest overall, gap closing, and progress scores among Champaign County schools on the 2024-25 state report card, according to Superintendent Chad Lensman. The report shows notable gains in early literacy and graduation rates—reflecting a focused effort toward student growth.  Springfield News-Sun
  • Three candidates (Carol Dunlap, Susan Samuels and Stephanie Stephens) are running for one of two open seats on the Springfield City School District Board of Education as board terms end in 2027. They plan to use their long experience in education to help students succeed, support teachers and enhance community engagement if elected.  Springfield News-Sun

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Clark County earned StormReady certification from the National Weather Service for improved emergency preparedness—this includes digital alerts and outdoor sirens to better warn residents during storms. A future Board of Commissioners meeting will feature a presentation on the certification and the awarding of a special county street sign.  Springfield News-Sun

  • Pink Powder Puff 'Boo Away Cancer'

    The NE FFA will be holding our 13 Annual Pink Powder Puff event on Saturday, October 25th at 2:30 PM at Conover field to benefit the Breast Cancer Endowment Fund of Clark/Champaign Counties. Over the last 12 years, we have raised over $143,000 for the endowment. Along with the football games, we will have chicken and noodles in the concessions plus raffle and silent auction items, admission is just $5 per person.
