  • A memorial service has been scheduled for Chef Franco, the popular local chef who died last week at 56 after waiting for a second heart transplant, with visitation set for Nov. 1 from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Sulphur Grove Church in Huber Heights & a celebration of his life scheduled to start at 5 p.m.  WHIO

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Residents gathered at Greenon High’s football stadium Wednesday night to honor two young adults killed in a wrong-way crash on I-70 — Enon Mayor Timothy Howard said the turnout shows the community's love and grief.  WHIO

BUSINESS NEWS

  • After public hearings, Invenergy is moving forward with its Sloopy Solar Energy Center project targeted to begin in 2028, which could power up to 33,000 homes and create over 500 local jobs. The company has 90 days to submit its application to the Ohio Power Siting Board and promises more than $64 million in local investment—marking the first utility-scale solar facility in Clark County.  Springfield News-Sun

  • Triad Local Schools earned a 3.5-star overall rating on the 2024-25 state report card; the district scored high for graduation and college-career readiness + low for progress, and Superintendent Vickie Maruniak said it will focus on improving early literacy and closing gaps.  Springfield News-Sun

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gov. DeWine signed an executive order that will ban intoxicating hemp products from stores starting Oct. 14—he said the treats, designed to resemble candy, appeal to kids—and the ban will last 90 days while lawmakers review the rule.  WHIO

  • The Clark County Dog Shelter in Springfield features Reid, a mature Husky weighing about 65 lbs who is friendly and ready for a new home. His $22 adoption fee covers neutering, vaccines, a microchip, a dog license, and a free vet check.  Springfield News-Sun

  • Archbishop Alter High School won its fourth straight OHSAA state golf championship and eighth overall on October 8—showing its strong legacy in state play.  WHIO
