COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The family of Hershall Creachbaum is exploring plans for a permanent memorial in Springfield — they said the tribute will honor his memory and help the community remember him.  WHIO

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Viva La Fiesta owner Jonny Fuentes thanked customers for the Best of Springfield nomination on the restaurant’s one-year anniversary and said he is proud of his team for offering quality Tex-Mex and regional dishes. He added that the restaurant will expand to five locations while keeping friendly service—ensuring it remains a favorite in Springfield.  Springfield News-Sun

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Springfield City School District said it will not collect new taxes from the Nov. 4 ballot levy even if it passes. The decision came after an Ohio Supreme Court ruling in favor of the district on a 2013 bond levy dispute—upholding current tax practices for local residents.  Springfield News-Sun

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Seventeen new firefighters graduated yesterday at a ceremony in Springfield—each will join a fire station across the city to strengthen emergency response.  WHIO
  • Springfield will open a warming shelter at the Salvation Army on 15 S. Plum St this winter when temperatures drop to 32°F, and it will offer daily breakfast and dinner from 6 p.m. to 8 a.m.; if temperatures hit single digits, the shelter will run 24/7 with separate spaces for women and children and for men, case management, & support to help residents move into permanent housing. City officials and the Nehemiah Foundation are coordinating with the Springfield PD and fire department to ensure safety and smooth operations despite possible federal funding delays.  Springfield News-Sun

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Clark County Public Library in Springfield now hosts a free mobile CPR training machine built by the American Heart Association and Kettering Health. It is located at 201 S. Fountain Ave and will be available for about three months (providing hands-only training for all ages).  Springfield News-Sun
