  • The Springfield Community Beautification Committee honored Marianne Nave for 60 years of volunteer service on Oct. 12 — the city unveiled a commemorative sign to recognize her legacy in beautifying Springfield.  WHIO
  • Hartman Rock Garden is offering free docent-led tours this October—today's tour is at 1 p.m. at 1905 Russell Ave, and upcoming tours will let visitors see over 250 sculptures by Ben Hartman along with a live demonstration of his creative process and a visit to his unique 14-foot structure.  Springfield News-Sun

  • Hyundai has recalled more than 135,000 Santa Fe vehicles because of a fire risk — local customers are urged to contact their dealers for next steps.  WHIO

CULTURE NEWS

  • Cheyenne Shuttleworth quit her government job less than a year ago to focus on art and won first place in Springfield’s Best of Springfield contest; she painted a large mural at Hi Hat Social + she plans to open a studio to support local artists.  Springfield News-Sun

  • Gas prices are dropping in Ohio—averaging below $2.80 per gallon—after recent declines in fuel costs. Drivers in Springfield are set to benefit from the lower prices at local stations.  WHIO

  • Deputy Nick Dillion danced with Tecumseh High School cheerleaders during the Homecoming game last Friday — finishing with a high kick — to show that school officers can be both fun and protective.  WHIO

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Apple trees in Ohio are not growing as many apples this fall — warm spring temperatures caused early blooming and a dry late summer left the trees with less water. Experts say these weather changes will result in smaller fruit and a lower harvest overall.  WHIO

  • Pink Powder Puff 'Boo Away Cancer'

    The NE FFA will be holding our 13 Annual Pink Powder Puff event on Saturday, October 25th at 2:30 PM at Conover field to benefit the Breast Cancer Endowment Fund of Clark/Champaign Counties. Over the last 12 years, we have raised over $143,000 for the endowment. Along with the football games, we will have chicken and noodles in the concessions plus raffle and silent auction items, admission is just $5 per person.
