- ➤ The Alzheimer’s Association Miami Valley Chapter will host the 2025 Walk to End Alzheimer’s at Wittenberg University in Springfield on Saturday, October 25th—opening ceremonies begin at 9:40 a.m. and the walk starts at 10 a.m. to raise funds and awareness for Alzheimer’s care and research. WHIO
- ➤ Springfield approved over $28,000 to expand its winter warming shelter in partnership with the Faith Community Crisis Response Team—Aaron Roy of the Nehemiah Foundation said volunteer training sessions are scheduled for Nov. 14 from noon to 1:30 p.m. and Nov. 21 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Volunteers are needed to fill shifts and deliver supplies. - ➤ Jeff Collins, Molly Krauss, Katie Krupp and Jeff Yinger are running for three seats on the Northeastern Local School Board and each promises to improve our schools and manage money wisely. Collins, a teacher with strong local ties, and the others stress clear plans for better education and community input — they aim to strengthen the district ahead of the upcoming election. - ➤ The Springfield Foundation launched the Jim Scoby Memorial Athletic Scholarship today for eligible Shawnee and Springfield high school seniors involved in sports—this program honors Scoby’s legacy of local service and athletic passion. Donations can be made to support the scholarship fund and continue his impact in the community. Springfield News-Sun
- ➤ Springfield City Schools held events to honor Breast Cancer Awareness Month as students and staff took part in a walk at Lagonda Elementary, pink out days at Fulton Elementary, and games at Springfield High and Middle School. At Lagonda, teacher and survivor Laurie Hammontree led a walk that gave children an important lesson about overcoming challenges—uniting the school around hope and support. Springfield News-Sun

- ➤ Clark County Public Library’s Northridge branch was delayed by HVAC issues and will soft open in early November with a grand opening to follow after staff prepare for about three weeks. The branch will have dedicated areas for adults, teens and children along with meeting rooms and an outdoor reading patio backing Moorefield Family Park. Springfield News-Sun

- ➤ DoorDash and Instacart predict that Ohio trick-or-treaters will most often receive Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups based on data from last year—Ohio saw a strong preference for this classic candy—and early orders suggest that Hershey’s Cookies ‘N’ Creme bars may also make an upset appearance this Halloween. - ➤ Wittenberg University announced today it fired head football coach Jim Collins for substandard performance and named Joe Nemith as interim coach for the rest of the season— a national search for a permanent coach will begin soon. WHIO

Pink Powder Puff 'Boo Away Cancer'
The NE FFA will be holding our 13 Annual Pink Powder Puff event on Saturday, October 25th at 2:30 PM at Conover field to benefit the Breast Cancer Endowment Fund of Clark/Champaign Counties. Over the last 12 years, we have raised over $143,000 for the endowment. Along with the football games, we will have chicken and noodles in the concessions plus raffle and silent auction items, admission is just $5 per person.
