GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Ohio officials will provide $7 million to food banks to help cover shortfalls in SNAP benefits during the government shutdown, with $1.4 million directed to Shared Harvest Foodbank in Fairfield and funds serving Montgomery, Greene, and Preble counties (regional food banks face rising demand). Some local restaurants are also stepping in by offering free kids’ meals to support families affected by missed paychecks (one eatery on Woodman Drive in Dayton has doubled meal counts). WHIO
- ➤ The Springfield City Commission approved $50K to Second Harvest Food Bank — which helps over 50,000 people and supports 65 pantries — to ease record food demand from reduced SNAP benefits and federal cuts. Springfield News-Sun

- ➤ A Springfield native, George Milton Neal—believed to be the first African-American U.S. Navy aircrewman to fly Combat Search and Rescue helicopters—will be honored with a new Navy destroyer named USS George M. Neal, DDG131, that will be christened in Spring; a permanent exhibit about his legacy is set to be unveiled at the Clark County Historical Society’s Heritage Center on Nov. 8 from 12 pm to 3 pm. WHIO
- ➤ The Clark County Parks and Recreation District's replacement levy, which would have added $4—$7 per year to resident costs, failed but will be offered on the ballot two more times. - ➤ The Consumer Product Safety Commission recalled 941,400 bottles of Kirkland Signature Valdobbiadene Prosecco sold at Costco because they may break and cause cuts+buyers in Ohio and other states are advised to discard the bottles and contact Ethica Wines for a refund. WHIO
