- ➤ The city of Springfield will extend the winter warming shelter hours as local partners use a new $28,000 Community Development Block Grant to help unhoused residents stay warm. The shelter now opens overnight when windchill drops below freezing and will run 24 hours when temperatures hit single digits. WYSO

- ➤ Conductor George Daugherty will lead the Springfield Symphony Orchestra in a Bugs Bunny-themed concert at the Clark State Performing Arts Center on Nov. 15—using classical music and Looney Tunes clips to entertain families at 300 S. Fountain Ave. Ticket prices range from $18 for balcony seats to $81 for general admission—ensuring the show reaches audiences of all ages. Springfield News-Sun
- ➤ Frank Lloyd Wright’s great granddaughter will speak at the Westcott Gala celebrating 20 years since the Westcott House restoration—she will honor his legacy as the evening starts with cocktails at 6 p.m., followed by dinner and a program featuring architecture students’ work and a dance performance; tickets are available through Sunday, Nov. 16. - ➤ Franklin City Schools will make significant budget cuts after a school tax levy failed and state aid drops by $1.4 million this year and $1.2 million next year. The cuts may force layoffs of over 40 staff and 16 teachers, and have already reduced half-day kindergarten, bussing, and administrative roles—adding pressure on students and staff. WHIO
- ➤ Students and staff in Springfield schools honored veterans in a ceremony that featured performances by the High School Marching Wildcat Band, Drill Team and MJROC Color Guard and acts of kindness such as handmade American flag blankets and patriotic artwork; librarian Sheri Ehnie—who will retire this year—said the event has been a cherished annual tradition for over 20 years. - ➤ Wittenberg was placed on probation by the Higher Learning Commission on November 6th after it did not show that its financial and personnel resources support operations—its 2026 budget revealed a projected cash flow deficit of about $10.8 million and a potential credit line exhaustion by March 2026. The university will host a comprehensive evaluation by April 2027 to decide if the probation will be lifted. WHIO

- ➤ Ohio expanded its mobile mental health crisis teams for kids, and they now serve all 88 counties after Gov. Mike DeWine announced the program this week—teams are sent to youth in crisis via calls to the 988 Lifeline to help keep them away from justice and hospital systems. WYSO
