COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Dolph is a friendly 70 lb mixed breed dog available for adoption at Clark County Dog Shelter — his $22 fee covers his neuter, vaccines, microchip, dog license and free vet check. The shelter is also seeking blankets for colder months — visit 5201 Urbana Road to meet him.  Springfield News-Sun
  • The local county mourns the loss of firefighter Irwin—he mentored many firefighters as a Fire Safety instructor for years.  WHIO

BUSINESS NEWS

  • The restaurant announced its reopening date after its chef and owner died. It said it will continue its tradition—serving a new menu every week.  WHIO

CULTURE NEWS

  • Students, faculty and staff gathered at Clark State College for the third annual Culture Fest to learn about different cultures and discuss how hate began and could be stopped—an event that brought diverse traditions together. The program featured a culture fair, a community luncheon, and a panel led by longtime professor Judy Chesen—calling on everyone to become upstanders.  Springfield News-Sun

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Since Springfield replaced its bus system with on-demand Field Trips microtransit last July, ridership has grown to about 500 rides per day, a jump of roughly 200 rides. The 16 vans—operating Monday-Friday from 6:40 a.m. to 6:40 p.m.—will soon display number IDs to help riders identify the correct van.  Springfield News-Sun

SPORTS NEWS

  • High schools in the Miami Valley and across Ohio cast emergency votes on whether athletes can earn money from their name and image following a court win by a local football player; voting began at 9:00 a.m. on Monday and will end Friday at 4:30 p.m. as Springfield City Schools reviews its options.  WHIO
