COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Local nonprofits have faced rising needs and reduced federal funding in 2025, the Dayton Foundation said. The group advises residents to consult tax advisors and support charities with cash donations or volunteer work before the end of the year (OBBBA is changing tax deductions for 2026).  WHIO

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Springfield City School District students engaged in winter service projects to support local organizations. Fulton Elementary, Warder Park & Snyder Park hosted blanket, food and coat drives that assisted community partners.  Springfield News-Sun
  • Wittenberg University launched a moot court team — an addition to its mock trial program revived in 2023 — to compete in simulated Supreme Court arguments. The team competed regionally last November and will continue its efforts next year.  Springfield News-Sun

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Sheltered Inc. will keep the Hartley House and Norm’s Place shelters open through February thanks to $67,000 from the city's Community Development Block Grant — city officials are looking for long-term solutions to support Springfield’s unhoused neighbors.  WYSO

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Sarah is a friendly 28-lb mixed breed pet available for adoption at the Clark County Dog Shelter (5201 Urbana Road). Her adoption fee covers spay, vaccines, microchip, dog license and a free vet check, and the shelter requests extra blankets as the cold months approach.  Springfield News-Sun
