COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A report from the Dayton Daily News showed that older adults outnumbered children in 25 Ohio counties, with census data indicating longer life spans and fewer births. The report said this shift may lead to changes in service and housing needs — a trend affecting communities across the state.  WYSO

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A 20-year-old man died when two boats collided during a race at Champions Park Lake at around 10 a.m. on Tuesday — medics took him to the hospital where he later died.  WHIO

CRIME NEWS

  • Marcus Hasan was charged Tuesday with murder, felonious assault, and domestic violence after he called 911 on July 23 saying he shot his girlfriend in Springfield—court documents show she was shot several times and died at the scene.  WHIO
  • A new video shows a Springfield officer shooting one round at a car during a chase that began early Thursday when the suspect did not stop on Interstate 70 and drove into the city— the officer is now on paid administrative leave as officials review the incident.  WHIO
  • Twenty-four people were indicted in Clark County Common Pleas Court this week—facing charges ranging from violation of a protection order and aggravated burglary to domestic violence and theft—with several defendants from Springfield and nearby areas.  Springfield News-Sun

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Clark State named Eric Charlton as dean of its new School of Allied Health and Public Services after the Ohio Department of Higher Education approved a new bachelor’s degree in nursing earlier this year. He will oversee allied health programs as the division splits from its former combined school — a move aimed at better meeting local workforce needs.  Springfield News-Sun
